Research Description

Kesler has been collections manager of fossil vertebrates in the Department of Paleontology since 2005 and has been working in museum paleontology departments since 1994.  He has expertise in the sedimentary deposits of San Diego County, which preserve a record of past life from the late Cretaceous through the late Cenozoic.  Kesler has a broad knowledge of Cenozoic vertebrate taxonomy, but is particularly interested in Plio-Pleistocene land mammals.  Kesler has extensive experience with collections databases. He manages the Department’s paleontological specimen database using Specify software, and will be responsible for sharing collection’s data with the EPICC TCN.
